on a recent visit to Wales I had to pull over to ask directions, not realising that I had stopped on a bicycle lane with double yellow lines, I was only there a few seconds but as I pulled away I noticed a traffic warden walking down the road and as I passed him I noticed in my rear view mirror that he took out a note pad and started to jot something down,I can only assume that he wrote down my number,It has made me wonder if it is possible to have a fine sent through the post or do I have to be given a ticket on the spot

no he was about to start giving you a ticket on most DYL you have five minutes unless there is a white sign saying no loading at any time , the white sign coupled with kerb marks mean tickets are instant , but on DYL with just a yellow sign saying at any time , you have 5 mins loading time
it is always advisable to find a legal place to park and to ask the warden in a nice tone like a child asking a teacher , what did you write and why did you write that , and what does DYL , SYL,FTW, VDA mean
FTW = FIXED TO WINDSCREEN if its wrten that he did in his note book and he didn't the ticket is void
VDA= if you drive away , even if the ticket has been processed you didn't handle the ticket nor was it FTW,
vechile drive away,
alway check the sneaky feckers do this

If the cycle lane had a solid line you could be fined, stopping on a double yellow not parking should be OK.

No, unless it is in London, the warden has to hand the ticket to you or affix it to your vehicle. He may just have been making notes as to location, we had to do that every 15 minutes or so

No your OK. He was probably just getting over busy and taking your number for later reference if he nabbed you parking on double yellows later in the day for instance.

He has just taken your number down as a reference. He has to afix a note to your windscreen with dates and times .Nothing to worry about.
