Which do you prefer? I live in a new one but am happiest in older houses...I always feel that despite the damp and things they have more character.

I live 6 months per year in Budapest, Hungary. We purchased an apt. there which is 107 years old. I love the 13' high ceilings and the double French doors.
I need to remodel a bit but I love it so much such charactor,I wonder who lived here in the past. My next door neighbors have lived in this building for 4 generations.
In the states, I live in a modern apt. but they are build so cheaply and are just to expensive. What can we do?In the states we are always tearing down old things.

I live in a 50 year home that my Father & Mother built themselves! It is a lot to take care of it when it is old! I would rather live in a new one! But they are not built very strong as they were in the past! I have neighbors in a new house across the street about 3 houses over. And i can hear a lot of what is going on in their home! I like my privacy!

I live in an 1892 Victorian house, with a large attic and 3 cellars,a very solid house with sash windows.New builds look nice, but they are just chucked up,lots of studded timber walls and cost less to build considering how much they go for on the market.

I live in a house my grandfather built in 1917. It is small...one story...but they raised my mom and her six brothers and sisters here. The house was totally remodelled in 2002, so it seems like new, but the memories are still here.
