I hoped to find reasonable questions and discussion in this category. Instead I find that most postings are ill-informed rantings by extremists on both sides.

Why can't this forum be a respectful and well throught out debate on the topics that affect our lives?

Oops. That should be 'well thought-out".

Don't be disheartened. Sometimes people have a knee-jerk
reaction when they find someone who challenges their beliefs. That does not mean that they are not still given food for thought. There are closed minded people on every side of every issue. But with a presidential primary on the horizon, efforts to persuade tend to get a bit heated. Readers here can tell who is making a valid point and who is simply repeating talking points; who is advancing the debate and who is simply spewing vitriol.

The one who begins name calling is always the one who is out of valid arguments.

When the truth is on your side, bang home the truth. If the truth is not on your side, bang on the desk.

That isn't possible because like you stated, there is nothing but extremist trolling around in this section. A great deal of post are disguised insults posed as questions. The sad part is, the person who post these "questions" only give the best answer to those who agree.

Many people on this forum are extremists. But keep your eyes open. There are some informed people on both sides. You just have to really look hard to find them.

You can't really debate issues on Y!A. You ask a question, people answer your question, then you chose a best answer.

You will find better questions on "Elections" and "Government" and "Law & Ethics."

The reason it's bad here is because we take our "talking points" from Bill O'Reilly and Keith Olberman.

most people are to ingernt to admit they maybe wrong/misinformed. (kinda sad)

others are just to lazy to do the research & would rather blast people based on their own racist ideals. (pathetic)
