He was not killed by a cross. He hung on the cross, it is not a symbol of what killed him that we wear arounf our necks, it is a symbol of Christ tat we wear on our necks.
He was killes by being beaten for what he spoke, what he taught and what he wanted for us. He was killed so that we could go on. He gave his life for all men and women and we wear the cross to remind us that he died on that cross for US.

Beware any religion with a torture device for it's holy symbol.
I wonder if it bothers Jesus. It wasn't the symbol of early Christians, who used the fish, chi-rho and other marks. Jesus must be like "Dude, that was the worst day of my life. I got whipped by a roman them got my arms NAILED to a freaking 2 BY 4. Stop reminding me about it."
