Such problems require serious step against such person who indulge in these activities. As far Police is concerned they don't have any jurisdiction to stop such extra-marital relationship unless they are covered under the provisions of the Suppression of immoral traffic Act or this results in cruelty against the wife that effected her physically & mentally to extreme harm, for which a proper medical checkup & report confirming such physical or mental harm is mentioned, in that case this can be covered under the provision of section 498A of the Indian Penal Code which is an cognizable offence for police to interfere & investigate. As far the social welfare organizations such as the National Commission for Women or such women welfare originations are concerned, they can help in the sort of counseling to such husband & even help in getting protection order against him from the court for the wife under the provision of the Protection of Women from the Domestic Violence Act. Which this lady can herself also get from the court individually or with the help of the Protection Officer of the district appointed under this Act where she lives. This act of the husband can be covered under the definition of Domestic Violence as it amounts to mental harassment/emotional abuse. Since the intensity of such mental harassment/emotional abuse cannot be so extreme to cover it under the definition of cruelty as provided under the provision of section 498A IPC but it no doubt can be covered as mental harassment to be called as domestic voilence, for which a protection order can be issued against the husband to prevent his such activities. The purpose of DV Act is to prevent any sort of disharmony in the families that results in breaking the family at any time by any such activity or that will cause any harassment for women members of the family. A simple counseling to such husbands may not be enough hence such protection order issued by the court works as the husband is told very clearly that if he repeats such activity in future he can face imprisonment for a term of one year & fine upto twenty thousand rupees & can even face trail under the provisions of section 498A IPC & get imprisonment upto three years & fine under those provisions too. Basically this Act helps such male members of the family to reform & refrain in indulging any such activity such as this as you mentioned.

If you stay focused on the mistakes of your husband, your marriage will go down the drain. He made a mistake, does he realise its a mistake and has repented for it ? If you start hanging husbands every time they cheat on their wives, every wife will be a divorcee. The police, social org are last resorts as it involves coersion and force, which should be used only when there is no other alternative. My advice to you is to stay out of your friends married life and let her decide for herself what to do, unless she has specifically asked you for advice.

to be frank with you her wanting to get rid of the problem is not enough if he is not ready. for even if u threaten or coax him to do be truthful he may find some other friend to satisfy his carnal needs.
so first make sure husband realises the problem & is really read to mend his ways.
social organisations can only help her support her family if the husband leaves them but they cant cure the husband of his ills.

If the hubby wants to work things out and quit cheating then I suggest counseling to deal with rebuilding trust and the relationship.

Social org can provide counseling to help her figure out what she wants to do.
Police can't help in any way.

All she can do if she wants to save the marriage is to go to some type of counseling, let him know that he hurt her by doing that, but then let him know if he does it again he is gone.
