Okay this really isnt a registration question its a brake question. About 6 months ago my friend had their brakes changed. About 2 weeks ago she got her car inspected for registration.

Last night the bold that holds the calipar on came out and froze up the brake.

She was wondering who didnt tighten the bold. I said I dont know when they check brakes if they have to remove a bolt to look at them for inspection. Does anybody know?

In my 45 years I've never seen an inspection stations remove slider pins when inspecting disc brake pads. The thickness can be viewed on the top or at each end.

It's not necessary to remove the caliper bolts or caliper bolt brackets either. I'm not sure of which bolts your speaking of because there's a big difference between slider pins (which can be bolts) and caliper bracket bolts.

To inspect brakes the caliper bolts do not have to be removed. Usually only the wheel is removed so you can get a better look at the thickness of the brake pads and the condition of the rotor. After 6 months time you may have a hard time proving it was left loose at time of brake change.

No, they don't loosen the bolts and most of the time they don't even check them. You would think they would since they inspect the brakes but that is not on their list. She needs to take her car back to the original place where her brakes were changed and request them to inspect and replace the brakes. She can take them to court if she needs to as this could have caused a serious accident or injury to her or to another person, car or property. I had this happen to me on the freeway at 70 mph, got off at the next exit and found a brake place. They told me they would charge me to look at it and fix it and I called the guy I got my brakes replaced at (0ver 2 hrs away) and he drove all the way out their to not only fix my brakes but pay the other company as well. The place I stopped at was amazed at the service I received. They didn't even have the right bolt and I would have had to stay there overnight.

You can usually just take the wheel off the car and see the brake rotors and see the brake lining. I guess some techs may take the caliper off. I don't know any that would but...
