I would like to meet my friend from Portland for a couple of days over thanksgiving vacation. I live in Albuquerque. Where should we meet that would make sense? It has to be something nature related. Where we can go on hikes and camp. One or both os us could fly, if need be. I would prefer a drive of 8 hours or less if I could help it.

Mesa Verde is beautiful this time of year, as is the whole of south west Colorado.

A good meeting place would be Flagstaff, Arizona. You can drive it in less than eight hours. Pick up your friend and go to the Grand Canyon, southwest, or head up north to Monument Valley. The scenery is spectacular at both places. There is camping and hiking. However it will be cold and possibly have snow at that time of year. An alternative would be to meet in Laughlin, Nevada. You can drive it in about ten hours or less and he can fly there. It's right on the Colorado River. There are State Parks on both sides, Plenty of mountains and trails. There are ten casinos there if you want a day or night out for some fun. The weather will be pretty nice. Warm days and cool nights (as a general rule) It can get windy. It is necessary to have a car. Hope this helps.

Close to what Connie said - try Sedona, AZ.
