You could convert the fraction to a decimal, so 1/2 would be .5

Then you'd multiply so it'd be

20(.5 x 35)
20(17.5)
= 350

A couple of ways to handle this:

#1 distributive property

20(1/2 x 35) = [(20*1/2) x (20*35)] = [10 x 700] = 7000

#2 do the algebra

20(1/2 x 35) = [20*35/2] is same as [20/2 * 35] = 7000

No addition of whole numbers and fractions that I can see. If you want to know how to do it, try this problem.

2 + 1 1/5 = ?
Write the second number as a fraction by getting common denominators (usually multiply the bottom of the fraction by the whole number part then adding that product to the top of the fraction)
1 1/5 <=> 5/5 + 1/5 <=> 6/5
Now we rewrite the problem:
2 + 6/5 = ?
To add or subtract, we need to make both fractions with the same denominator. In the case of whole numbers, the denominator is 1
2/1 + 6/5 = ?
To get common denominators, multiply both the top and bottom (numerator and denominator) 2/1 by 5 and 6/5 by 1.
10/5 + 6/5 = 16/5 3 1/5

First you take care of the multiplication inside the quantity (.5 *35) =35/2.
Then multiply this result by 20 and you get 20 *35/2.
Represent 20 as a fraction by multiplying the numerator by the lowest common denominator 2.
20/1 =40/2.
You get 40/2 x 35/2 which yields 17.5 times 20
175 + 175 = 350 check result by the equation 1400/4

Your question and your example are not compatible.

If your problem were how do I add 20 to 5/8, the answer would be (8*20 +5)/8 = 165/8.

Your example however asks for what is 20*(1/2)*35 = 350 and has nothing to do with adding a whole number to a fraction.

well that problem has no addition with it. When ur multiplying fractions with whole numbers, just put the whole number over 1 and multiply as u normally would with fractions. in the brackets, u'll get 35/2. then simply do the same thing again with the 20 and u'll get 350. the answer is not 700 or 710 because u have to use BEDMAS which means the calculations in the brackets have to be done first.

it looks like 1/2 x 35/1 x 20/1 i hope this helps

remember because there are parenthesis you have to multiply 1/2 and 35/1 first then multiply the product with 20/1

you make 35 into a fraction which is 35/1
then you do 1/2 x 35/1 which is 35/2
then you multiply 20/1 and 35/ 2 which is 700/2
so the answer is 350

well in your problem you will end up with 20(35/2). then finally with 350. There is no addition at all.

Change the whole number to a fraction with the same denominator as the fraction, then add the numerators.
