It's very easy to support making illegal aliens citizens when you live in Delaware, and you don't have to deal with them. Down here in Texas, over 50% of our population is now Mexican, and a huge percentage of those are illegal. They are responsible for a large amount of crime, an amazing percentage of hit and runs (they will get deported if they stick around), and cause a lot of congestion on the roads (they drive slow, because if the get a speeding ticket, they get deported).

I don't appreciate being called racist. I spend every day surrounded by people from Mexico. They are hard working people who came here for opportunities not offered in their home country, and I appreciate their plight. I also recognize the multitude of problems that come from the large number of them being here illegally.

quest_for_truth_gal - nice generalization about an entire half of the country's tendencies. That kind of generalization is similar to racial bigotry, isn't it?

Actually, based on the 2006 Population estimates issued by the Census Bureau, approximately 41% of Texas' population is HISPANIC. This may include Mexicans, but also others of Latino origin. There is no accurate way to measure the % of illegals. If you are going to spout nonsense at least BASE it is some semblance of reality.

The South has long been known as a bigoted, prejudiced area of the country so asking about their views on illegal immigrants does nothing to lend useful perspective on the issue.

I'm from CA, and I can see some valid points you make (while they are gross generalizations). On the same token, I also love hearing the most fervent anti-immigrant activists from Iowa or Pennsylvania shout about the subject. I think the voices of people who live in southern border states should be the loudest on this subject; it amuses me when people from the north get so involved when it doesn't nearly effect them as much.

Here's an anecdote answer:

There is a lady named Ortencia, married to Hipolito. She came her illegally, had an illegal driver's license, worked illegally without paying taxes, lived illegally in a basement, had ten kids who all had a free public education, had all of her garbage taken from curbside by department of sanitation for free, claimed all of her kids as dependents on her income tax returns and received a substantial kickback in Earned Income Credit for child, filed about five fraudulent personal injury lawsuits stemming from insignificant accidents or non-existent accidents, and, then she started buying homes using all that "hard earned" money and became a wealthy US Citizen who claims she "made it" on her own. She now espouses the plight of illegals and she claims they are productive members of society.

Them illegals should all be sent home! Anyone who comes to this country to mimic the white capitalist degenerates of this country should be deported! If they come here to follow Martin Luther's King's TRUE American dream, then they may be able to stay.

I agree with you. And quest_for_truth and Ace_of_spades probably go through their lives using the race card to get ahead. And ironically, they're the racists.

25 Americans are killed every day by illegal immigrants...er... undocumented workers. Murder and car accidents are the two main causes of this. That's 25 Americans each day that don't get to see tomorrow.
