Parents need to keep it real. Too much praise will make the child hit a brick wall when entering school and realizing he is not the center of the universe. However too little will cause a child to stray and have less confidence in and around people.

Children need to be loved - however hugs are not the only answer. There are a lot of people I know that could have used more doses of "tough love" from their parents.

Whether you like it or not - it is a harsh, competitive world. If you want your children to thrive and be happy you need to arm them accordingly. If they are soft or too nice - they may be picked on. (I was on the border of being too nice!)

Here is a good solution:
1) continue the hugs
2) blend in some wrestling - for boys and girls - this is a close loving thing - however can add some beneficial needs - competitiveness, toughness.
3) I'm not against hugs - just like to show love in ways that also teach and prepare kids for adulthood - like biking, hiking, camping, sports, working on cars, fixing things. Note these are all inexpensive but take time.

Not sure exactly what you mean by "hugs fever"?
If by that you are referring to too much hugging...well in one sense that CAN be "bad" in that one should concider WHO is doing that much hugging, and what is the motivation behind the "hugs" from the other person.
Everyone needs to be hugged from time to time. But excessiveness in ANY form is NOT good.

It is very good. As long as you teach them about God and you show them real love by teaching them higher truths then give them all the love they need. Just don't spoil them with out teaching them good and bad and right and wrong.

I think that kids nowadays are huge cry babies...they are loved to death, catered to, and coddled so they never experience heartache.
