I think that tradition is a positive force on culture because if everyone didn't do the traditions of that culture than there really wouldn't be a culture anymore. Like if your culture believed in not eating pork, going to church eveyday and praying at 12:00 and you dont do any of that. You aren't really following that culture then.

Yes it is.

In other words it can be both positive and negative. Traditions give us a sense of belonging and remind us of our history. On the other hand, not all traditions are good and accepting them without thinking can be harmful. A quick example is: Mom and daughter were making a roast and the mom explained that they had to cut it in half. The daughter asked why and the mom didn't know. The next time they say the grandmother, they asked her and she replied "I never had a pan big enough to cook a whole roast, so I had to cut it in two." Often traditions start due to a need and are continued after that need vanishes.

Depends on the tradition. In most cultures you find both positive and negative traditions and sometimes traditions that have both positive and negative connotations.

This needs to be discussed based on a specific culture and specific traditions.

For instance, in a monkey culture, is the tradition of throwing excrement at leopards positive or negative.

Negative in that in makes the leopards mad and continues the mutual antagonism between the two species.

Positive in that it can drive the leopard away and prevent him from eating one of the monkeys.

Tradition: positive because it ties us to our culture, our history. It's something stable in the world.
Tradition: Negative because it stops us from movie forward and exploring new possibilities within religion, culture ect.
Everything has pros and cons, you just have to weigh which one has more of an impact on you.

it depends on the tradition. like if your tradition is to honor your mother, well that is a positive but if your tradition is to allow your baby to be raped by a grown man, then i would have to say no.
