Any book by Dorothea Benton Frank - great reading! Weekend in Paris - by Robin Sisman
If you are into CSI, try anything by Patricia Cornwell
The Alienist - by Caleb Carr is also a good read if you are into history, and CSI
If you are into Romance, try anything by Lisa Kleypas (most importantly, her Regency period novels).
Good Luck!

It would help if you gave your age and interests, but here goes:
http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com
Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, a short review of each book along with a brief summary of adult content. There is also a "Reader's Choice" list of favorite books, and a list of heroine sorcery fantasy books.
Also these: http://www.interleaves.org/~rteeter/grtother.html#great . Lots of lists, but I especially like the Harvard Classics list - all the books that I should have read, but (mostly) never did.
Finally, these: http://www.awardannals.com/wiki/Honor_roll:Genres - pick your genre, find the best books ranked by how many awards they've won.
I hope this helps.

Lord of the Flies, or Cat's Cradle.
Both of these are intellectual books that i have read and liked very much
L.o.t.f. is more about human nature and society, when Cat's Cradle is about human relationships.
these are college level novels but im only 15
so, enjoy!

Odd Thomas, by Dean Koontz. If you like that one, try the rest of the set: Forever Odd and Brother Odd. They're fantastic!
