Tale of Two Cities. Charles Dickens.

"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known."

(That's what Sidney Carton said after he swapped clothes with his friend in prison so the guards let his friend out and Sidney gets his own head chopped off instead.)

This is major epic hero stuff. We are all great heroes and legends in our own minds, but in reality, it takes a really great, perhaps fictional character, to pull something like that off.

I understand your question in principle, but in today's world, if I did something like that, after about 3 months of my undeserved incarceration, I'd get a "Dear John" letter from the one I freed.

It depends on the severity of the crime and the intentions of my loved one when and if they committed the crime. It may be that no matter how much I loved someone they would need to pay the price for what they did.

Well, if the loved one did commit the crime, I wouldn't. Love is love--sure, but when it becomes that extreme, it's not worth it.
You shouldn't have to pay like that for love.

Only if the loved one were my mother or father. And it would also depend on the crime.

Hell no! the person who did the crime has to pay! Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

That would depend entirely on the person, crime and reason.

That is lying to the court which is a crime in itself.

would depend on what etc.
but if they killed someone, and they did it and were arrested i wouldnt state i was guilty for it, and if they would let you take the blame for it when you didnt do it then they obviously dont love you as much as you love them.

also, it wil give them the impression that they can do anything, and that you are just a doormat

Nope. I'm not going to jail for something I didn't do. I may love the guy, but no way, Jose.
