Some might call it mental masturbation and if you linger too long daydreaming your life away it is.
I think however a little bit of daydreaming is alright. It is a nice creative outlet and may give you insight about what is you seek in your life. Often you need to visualize something before you can help manifest it.
Another possibility is that it can help those who are in the creative writing are or film business. When I was younger I would read books and daydream their continuation. Then I thought to myself I could write books just as good as these if not better cause I was so much more thrilled with what I could imagine. The books just gave me the kick start.
And hence I started my dream to become a writer. Has it all manifested how I wanted it. No, not as expected but it has taken some nice turns and now I am into writing things of greater depth such as philosophical, self help, political, or more meaningful fiction.

Daydreaming is not really avoiding the reality… it’s just a way of thinking better things… Of what we are capable to do…

For sure. Because when I think/daydream, I´m bored. So I´m avoiding the reality of boredom.

Yes and No. Your abstract or lack of concentration is a spatial moment of recording time. If it is something you cannot control you may want to talk or ask for professional advice. These moments are nature's way of making a memory with still. Reality is pure concentration. You are always at a task . An example of reality is not to distract in daydreaming but say watch t.v. or working.....Your concentration is always needed.

No, you are only avoiding reality when you ask if thinking or daydreaming is avoiding reality.

Reality can not be avoided at all. it is there and it shall be there, and one has to face it now or later, and that is for sure. One may say that day dreaming is a kind of temporary escape from some of the harsh realities. But through day dreams, one makes his self or mind formidable to face and either counter or live up to the reality. Thus, never stop day dreaming, they are the most healthy aspect of mind.

Not at all, thinking and daydreaming is your way to settle and organize your thoughts and experiences. It's like filing in your office or organizing your files on your computer. It's a review of reality so you can continue dealing with it, without be overwhelmed by each experience.

When I daydream (or think) I am not avoiding reality -- I am actually enhancing my reality by assimilating data through thought, active or passive.
