People scoff at him all the time for him being dumb (which first of all is very cruel... we shouldn't ridicule anyone for their perceived intelligence, it is just not what we do in a polite society). More importantly, whether you agree with him or not, and whether you are from the left, right or constitutionalist point of view, I think that everyone is underestimating him. Sorry, I just don't buy that someone with an average intelligence could have accomplished all that he has in the time he has been in office. Remember, there are at least 7 times of intelligence.

I think Bush probably has an above average IQ, but a genius? Please, get a grip. What has he accomplished? He's got us mired in chaos and civil war in Iraq. He went in without a plan for the peace or the aftermath, and it shows. What else has he accomplished? I'd love to know. He's divided this country and almost singlehandedly destroyed the Republican Party's chances of being elected dogcatcher in '08. He's a terrible President. I'm old enough to remember Nixon like it was yesterday and even he didn't screw up as badly as Bush has.

EDIT: We've paid attention, that's how we know he doesn't have many accomplishments to point to. You clearly disagree, please list those accomplishments out for us if there are so many. If you can't, which you haven't despite more than one request, then it just proves our point. Thanks.

I am in high school and uhh sorry if his iq is 125 he is not stupid and ahh if you scored 120 neither are you 115 to 129 is above average. I know this from test that I took which I got a 143 (sigh 1 point away from being a genius level oh well there’s always next year) and know I am not sure about this one but when I looked it up on Google it said that the average iq for an American was 98 which is low average. but I think he is probably a little better then 125, I just think that his brain is suited to one type of thing and that’s probably logical thinking

Hmmm... I think some of that may be our perceptions of what is an accomplishment for America, and what's a failure. Every report coming out of Iraq- including the GAO and military reports, look dismal as far as making progress on the President's established benchmarks for success. The military report was a little more generous than the GAO version, in that it gave partial credit on five of the benchmarks, but 8 out of 18 still isn't good. The value of the dollar has dropped to the same value as the Canadian dollar, despite the President's assurances that the economy is booming. Even as we fight an enemy who reportedly "hates us for our freedoms", he desecrates those same freedoms to "fight" the same enemy- does he believe they'll leave us alone if we simply give up our freedoms?

There have been several times during his presidency, when actions seemed to be motivated either by dishonesty or ineptitude. Personally, I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt in those times, and believe that he's simply inept. The alternative is that he's brilliant, but genuinely evil, and I'd prefer not to face that possibility if I don't have to.

There are several more than 7 types of intelligence, but he hasn't publicly shown any of them. Perhaps you're right, and he has some heretofore undisplayed genius, but if we can't write off the worst of his actions to incompetence, then we're left with something much worse.

I wouldn't credit Bush with a genius IQ because most geniuses seem to have very limited areas in which they excel.

For example, a physics genius, who can describe in minute detail the mathematical wonders of how a hummingbird manages to fly can't pilot an aircraft, even though he should understand the concepts. The physics genius would crash the aircraft.

Bush is a certified jet fighter pilot. I lot of people simply can't handle the simultaneous tasks required to accomplish this. Despite the millions of potential pitfalls, he managed to negotiate the worst of them and prevail for a second term as President, even though he was engaged in an unpopular war. President Johnson couldn't have managed that.

Here's something to consider: Reagan also had a type of genius that is not easily quantifiable. For example, no one else could even conceive of the idea of DEFEATING the USSR. They could only imagine "containment", "appeasement", and other short-term strategies. Reagan had a razor-like mind that cut through all the nonsense and focused on a single goal. While all the "brainy" economists of the day, Samuelson, Galbraith, et al, laughed at his assertion that the USSR was in economic straits (they contended it was outpacing the U.S.!!), Reagan only needed to see photos of typical Russian life, and their stores to conclude that no healthy economy could possibly resemble what he saw.

Bush has the same type of very single-focused mind like Reagan. He sees a situation and almost instinctively seems to know what needs to be done. The problem is, Bush comes across badly on camera. In private, even his critics admit he is charming, personable, and quite intelligent.

I have always found it compelling that he "beat" the people that kept calling him dumb; so I wonder if he were dumb and he beat them in two elections what that makes them - beat by a dumb person. Besides he actually had a higher GPA then Kerry did at the same school - something the media didn't point out until after he beat Kerry in the general

Well, the way I see it is that IQ is an indicator of the potential for intelligence, which does not measure how a person exercises and applies that potential. To me, an intelligent person has a curious mind, welcoming diverse ideas to formulate and refine opinions with the most information possible. Given Bush's propensity to surround himself with like-minds and to designate 'free speech' zones to avoid protesting opinions, I do not see him as a curious mind with the strength or flexibility to handle broad, dynamic thinking.

Ones intelligence is not always measured by a test. Intelligence is to understand and take directions to be able to admit you make mistakes. Bush fails on both accounts.

Something that wasn't talked about much is that Bush has a higher IQ and grades then John Kerry had. But, because Kerry was an eloquent speaker he is perceived to be smarter.
