Productivity is not about working harder. It is first and foremost about getting as much work as possible done without human involvement (i.e., by machines).

My working days are done,..thanks to a back injury, and all the good drugs I take for the pain.
But, in my 40 years in the workforce, I found that no matter what the job was, organization was the key to every job, whether a physical, or mental task.
The ideal environment, and mindset, for me to really rock & roll, would be a situation where I had all the materials, tools, and plans nearby before beginning. A self-supervised, and therefore independent role is essential too.
I was a Chef for about 38 years. That is a job that brings instant gratification, in that, as soon as the food is served, you start receiving feedback from the end-consumer, and since I'm a middle child, people-pleasing has always been a top priority for me. If my feedback had been poor in the early days, I wouldn't have continued that line of work, and would probably have gone back to building homes,..another great job for personal satisfaction, and the results last a long time, not eaten in a few minutes.

I'm usually most "productive" when I'm not asking questions on the internet!
