it is just a simple few questions so no flaming please, but do you know that lucifer actually means " bearer of light"?, or satan, comes from the hebrew word "shaitan" meaning assassin? last of all, if the devil betrayed god and was cast out, why would sinners be tortured forever? surely the devil would welcome them with beer and nachos?

Yes, I was aware of the meaning of the names.

About your beer and nachos comment, let me just say that it's sometimes human nature that if something is taken from you then you probably don't want others to have it. Some of the trolls here at Y!A had accounts, some even with lots of points, and lost them so now they come back with new accounts to report everyone else and try to make us lose our accounts.

Satan doesn't want us to have what he can't have. Have you ever seen the movie DOGMA with Silent Bob and Jay? If you haven't, rent it. The two fallen angels in that movie, Loki and I can't remember the other name, acted devilishly bad although it was a comedy and, sure, done in a funny way.

Lucifer mean shining, bright, as you and others have noted. It referred to the morning star (Venus). I've read that, at some point, it also referred to Christ--but then it also was the name of one of angels in the myth about the revolt in heaven. The angel Lucifer may have been named Lucifer also as a reference to the morning star since in antiquity the morning star was thought to be a "fallen star" cast out of the company of the other stars of the night sky (Although the morning star IS the planet Venus, the mythology says that Venus (the goddess) was cast out of the night sky because she was so conceitedand obnoxious about her seductions). The fallen angel Lucifer then became conflated with the demon Satan, which originated with the Hebrews who made reference to a mystical moral enemy named shaitan (which means enemy). When Christ talks about Satan in the New Testament, he is using the word "shaitan."

Beer, nachos, and orgies--good point.

Lucifer, means "light bringer", or something like that, as you said. It's based in Latin. (Luminous, Lucid,...)
Satan = Shaitan means "adversary" as far as I know.
Old Christian stories taken literally, you make a good point with the beer and nachos question. I don't take it that literally though. Hell, like Heaven, is a state of mind, which can be carried with you after this life into the next. Though the devil can tempt he cannot force you there. It's your own self-torture that puts you in Hell. therefore I would think, the devil may a tortured soul too. Personally, I don't believe in the devil as such.

In Heaven, Lucifer was called Luz Belle. Luz means light and Belle means “a popular and beautiful or attractive woman” whose “charm and beauty make her a favorite.” (Webster’s Dictionary).

According to the Holy Spirit we talk to, Luz Belle was one of the archangels in Heaven and the only woman archangel.

Revelation 12:7-9 tell us of that expulsion of Luz Belle and her angels from Heaven:
7 “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Isaiah 14:12 states the name of that dragon: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”

Lucifer presents herself as light, hence “luz”. The “fer” in Lucifer may mean earth or iron of the earth. Lucifer also presents herself as a man although she was a woman. Satan is really a liar. The Holy Spirit told us that the saying “The Devil is a woman” is true.

Revelation 20:2 reaffirms who the dragon is: “And he (an angel) laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.”

People who have been deceived by the Devil or Satan or Lucifer and follow him (or her) will be tortured in the lake of fire or Hell forever. As you said, “surely the devil would welcome them with beer and nachos”.

Let us use our intellect in order not to be deceived by Lucifer or Satan.

in my opinion the reason sinners will be tortured is because of the evil that 'satan' has become after all this time. he had a problem when he was leading god's choir, jealousy. even now, he is jealous of what God does for humans.

also, the devil will also be tortured. God created Hell as an ultimate punishment for human and demon alike. the devil has no control over it, contrary to what you see in movies. he will not be walking around with a tripod torturing people, the fire will be the torture.

For the name part its exactly what Kel said...I'm sure you don't need any repetitions

But about Lucifer welcoming them with "nachos and beer"...the reason he doesn't do this is because he is also suffering and he is trying to get as many people as he can to suffer with him because he is angry at God for throwing him out of heaven.

hope this helps...God Bless

Lucifer Morningstar - the Light Bringer - was God's first son. Also, have you ever heard of "luciferous"? Means almost the same thing as "phospherous", but not quite the exact same thing. It's a mineral substance.

Yes, Lucifer was Satan's angelic name, before he was cast out of Heaven. We know that.

Oh and the lake of fire is Satan's punishment, not his home.
