and why are fewer people left handed than right handed?

all depends on what side of the bed conception takes place on. most men initiate sex and most women sleep on the right hand side of the bed, so most people are born right handed. my mum was a bit of a goer, so I'm a lefty. Ambidextrous people are conceived in single beds or outdoors. Those who's parents got jiggy in a lift have their left or right handedness dictated by which floor the lift was on at the big moment. Hope that helps.

Left-handed genes

There are two genes that control handedness, the right handed and left handed genes. Right handedness is a dominant trait and therefor a person only needs one right handed allele (from either their mother or father) to be right handed. On the other hand, left handedness is recessive and takes two left handed alleles, one from the mother and one from the father in order for the person to be left handed.

I don't think it has anything to do with genes. My nephew (by marriage) taught his child to be left handed. He started early, as soon as she started picking things up, and would always put things in her left hand, therefore she is left handed.
