80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Your question requires God. Goals and purpose for our lives can only be given by the creator of our lives.
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (20th century mathematician, philosopher and Nobel Laureate)
Without God, our lives have no purpose, and we have a meaningless existence. Things that have no purpose have no worth. So, without God, our lives are also worthless. All we can do then is to try and keep busy (i.e. "live life to the fullest" as some say) and focused on other things so we won't have time to think about it.
"There is only one really serious philosophical question, and that is suicide. Deciding whether or not life is worth living is to answer the fundamental question in philosophy. All other questions follow from that." (Albert Camus, 1942, philosopher and writer)
If we think that God might exist, then we can see that God must have put our intense need for purpose and meaning into our human nature to point us to seek Him. So seeking our Creator is our purpose.

I used to ask this same question. As I've grown a little older and at the same time grown in my faith. I've learn to never question God. He fills my life with purpose. I am here or better yet, WE are here to live our lives to the fullest. Experience all that God has to offer,be fruitful and happy. Live your life virtually worry free and know that he will provide for you. Help and pray for others and all will be good.

Our purpose is to attain a higher connection with God, through a human existence. That means we are separated from God by being human, and the way we reach a higher state is by connecting with God through other people. In other words, Love is the answer: 1.Love God; 2. Love others. If you follow this; you will reach a higher state of conciousness. In other words, you will find happiness. By doing this, you can live in the body and in the spirit.

To evolve Gurl. What else could there be? To evolve to completion by working on elements of ourselves which can only be present while we are in this condition of the world.
The evolution from Alpha to Omega to become complete and Whole, which brings a completion to the whole/one we abide within, or the substance from which permeates all life. Life is evolving to know thy self.

Why do you ask a collective question
This is something you ask yourself about you.
What is my purpose in this life
Why am I here
Ask
Seek and you shall find
For you
Each person has a different "purpose"
You need to ask yourself these questions
When you are ready, you will know.
