A multi-cylinder misfire affects all cylinders, not just one, so changing the spark plugs would not be the cure. You need to look for a device that affects all cylinders.

My first thought would be that you have an EGR valve that is hanging up causing an overly lean condition and misfire. That would also cause the hard start (too lean) and the rocky idle (way too lean). EGR valves fail because of carbon build up and the failure is not unusual. I'd think that is the first thing to check or replace.

Other possibilities are more remote--leaking vacuum lines, leaking intake gaskets, leaking head gaskets, fuel pumps that have too much or too little pressure, restricted air filters and things of that nature. The problem with those items in terms of your statement is that they don't "get bettter". EGR valves will stick and get 'unstuck' to fix themselves. gaskets, vacuum leaks and fuel pumps don't fix themselves.

contaminated fuel could also cause your problem. if the injectors are getting clogged that could cause the misfires. injectors are somewhat self purging and could unblock the clogs. You'll have to consider that possibility but its unlikely. Getting a tank of "bad" gas is more likely and that could 'fix' itself as you burn it off and replace it with new gas and it could repeat if you subsequently got another tank of gas with a high water quantity.

You've already changed the cap and rotor; the only other possibility in the ignition system that could cause the mult-cylinder misfire is the coil and that would be my second choice behind the EGR. Coils do break down over time and can cause your problem. It is usually the EGR or the ignition coil.

hope that helps

First check if you installed the right plugs in Honda NGK are more recommended and also that you are using the right material, some will take cooper and other will take platinum and some will take iridium plugs. After that make sure that firing other is good, make sure that you have change the rotor and also use good parts don't buy the cheap parts. After all that scan the system with a scanner and see what codes pull up. If you only get a misfire code then check for cables, or possible dist.

In one word, yes! I bought a 2000 Prelude from the original owner this March with only 24K on it and the car is fun to drive. My only regret is that it replaced my 2002 RSX which had a little more power and a little more head room. I am 5'-10" and I have to lay the seat back a little more than I would like when driving it. I am also not big on the car requiring premium fuel but since I only put about 2000 miles on it a year on the car since it is my summer ride, I can live with it. Hope that helps

sounds like the plugs aren't in the right cylinders when you swapped them out did you make sure to put them back exactly where they were? bc if not, that would definitely cause the problem that you're describing, if its not that, it sounds like a timing issue, make sure your timing is correct, and then from there i would honestly need more information to say whether or not it might be something else. but check those two items and make sure they are responding in proper order, and check the timing belt as well as the cams, and hopefully that will solve your problem.
