It is suppose to give us an opportunity to celebrate, honor, or remember a specific occasion or person(s) that have been important to us in our history or tradition. It also helps to make up part of our culture. Sometimes it is just a time to pause and think about the sacrifices that others have given for our country.
Of course, it also gives us a day off as part of the celebration or memorial.

National is the opposite of Regional.
These Hols give the Nation of one-ness; of togetherness. That it is one Nation. Not split up between Ethnic groups .

TO HAVE A BRAKE AND SOMETIMES CELEBRATE SOME THING THEY THINK IS IMPORTANT , CAN YOU IMAGINE GOING HOME TO A DISTANT CITY TO BE WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR EASTER , 4 TH OF JULY , THANKSGIVING , OR CHRISTMAS , OR NEW YEARS , HAVING TO WORK BOTH THE DAY BEFORE AND THE DAY AFTER ?
