You should definately go. Something must have made you want to make the call to start with. Think of it as a positive thing. You may settle things you couldn't settle on your own. It's always good to have someone to talk to and this couselor may just change your attitude and your life. Give it a try. What have you got to lose? If this counselor doesn't do it for you, don't be afraid to try a different one, but give it the benefit of a doubt. They have helped millions...they may be able to help you....and even Tony Soprano had a therapist.. ; )

I really encourage you to keep your appointment.
Remember: this is a human being you have hired to be helpful to you. You are the one in control here. No one is going to make you do anything you don't want to do.
Think of it this way: right now, you don't really have enough information to make a good decision, as far as whether or not counseling would be helpful to you.
How about go ahead and attend the first session. Then you will have more information with which to make an informed decision.
Best of luck to you in your treatment,
~M~

I would still go. You never really know what it will be like until you try. Also, what are you really afraid of? Are you worried you will share something you aren't ready to share? Are you worried the counselor will tell you something you don't want to hear? I can be a very relaxing experience that helps or at worst, makes you feel uncomfortable. I would recommend at least giving it a chance.

I went through that also. I was scared but I went and basically all we did was talk. The first appointment was background information. How we met, when we got married, how many kids we have, what are we doing now. Stuff like that. It is not scarey at all. Good luck to you.

Maybe you have the wrong perspective.
All counseling is is creating a new relationship with someone you can talk to confidentially, who also can assist guide you through the difficult areas of your life.
Doesntt get any better than that :)

Force yourself to go. I mean, the worst that will happen is you go and you don't like it which puts you right back to where you are now. But at least you will have tried it and know what it is like.
Also, do not let fear control you, you can't live life with regrets.

trust yourself , you want / need to go or you would not have made the appt.
let the person know that you are nervous when you get there. tell them you considered to cancel the appt.
you are paying for a service. anything that makes you better / more comfortable is worthwhile.
the whole appt is about YOU. YOU are what matters.

Something pushed you far enough to make the appointment. You fear most what you dont know, so if you go, you will then know what it's like and will knock over another pin of fear in your life.

It won't be as bad as you think it will be... and even if you feel you've fixed all your problems and don't need it... what the heck.. why not show up anyway to have someone else tell you you've fixed them all :)
Bottom line is.. you have absolutely nothing to lose by showing up... so give it a try.
