"I" is a subject.
"me" is an object.
A prepositional phrase requires an object.
The first one is not formal; it's just wrong.
The second one is correct.
Remove "my brother" from the phrase and it will be obvious.

the second one is more correct. If ever in doubt, leave out the "my brother" and see if it makes sense. It should make sense both ways. "left it to my brother to decide" and "left it to me to decide". See what I mean?
Also, I would change intermarriage to marrige. Intermarriage sort of sounds like family members marrying other family members.

the second one is correct. The rule is to imagine dropping the first part, and simply make sure that the self-refernce matches.

The first one is more formal. The second one is used, but is considered more informal.

Edit: Oh dear! Looks like I made a terrible mistake!!!

To I is always wrong as to is a preposition and needs me not I as its object. You wouldn't say "give it to I" would you? So 'left it to my brother and me" is correct., not I.
