Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. To find number one, TDC and on the compression stroke, remove the distributor cap and roll the motor over manually until the timing mark lines up with the timing indicator on the harmonic balancer. Then have a look at where the rotor is pointing. It will either be pointing at number one cylinder or number six cylinder or rather the position where the plug wire is attached to the cap. Number one cylinder position for a distributor positioned properly will be pointing out towards the motor and number six is towards the firewall.
