I would just appreciate some feedback on which mobile phone is best (functionally and value-wise) for travelling with i.e. I would guess that it's probably a Nokia with long battery life and has at least tri-band or quad-band functionality plus I would have to be able to unlock it so that it can be used with other sim cards from other countries?

Any thoughts or suggestions is much appreciated!?

do you have international capacity. that is the key
call your provider.
used to work for Vz some do and more modern ones do old one no good out of the USA>
you would have to rent a phone.
relatively cheap do do this too.

I have just obtained a Nokia 6110 Navigator. It's an excellent phone as it has GPS and the mapping function is very good. It's like having a sat nav in your pocket!
