Because the have learned how to say STOP, let's not waste more money on that lost cause.
They haven't seing their investments' return in the timeframe that they thought so I guess they are less stubborn to admit it was not easy as they considered.

You answered your own question. If the US leaves there is the threat of civil war. No one is saying that about the British leaving.
Since the coalition defeated the Iraq army and ousted the government, the British have not had much to do. They are in an area that is all Shiite. If the Brits leave, who will the Shiites fight? Answer: no one.

The British are leaving because they have the option to. If the US were to leave a country in shambles as a direct result from a war we started with no reason, then there would be even more mayhem than there already is. The fact of the matter is that we're stuck there, and they aren't.
