You are in an older house.... you want to hook up a ventilation fan...which means the odds are you are going to be going into the attic. Examine your attic for any copper lines being used for plumbing and such. Those line are grounded. Strap a line onto the plumbing and run it to the location of the fan and use it as the ground wire.

THAT IS ONLY IF YOU WANT TO USE A GROUND WIRE...many people in older house don't add one if the fan is not accessable to people reaching up and touching it.

Good luck,
Z

I can't imagine the AGE being a factor at all; depending on HOW anything is installed PROPERLY.

Gads there are homes throughout the world; Centuries older than anything built in the states.

The keyword is PROPER, with regard to knowledge; and installation. a Vent fan might never cause a house to burn to the ground; but it might; even if grounded.

you definitely want a ground wire. it doesn't matter if it is an older house or newer. Without a grounding wire, you can get shocked or blow whatever else is plugged in near it.
