No Hyperterminal would require a serial port and/or the ability to telnet into it. Most can only be configured via a browser.

What is an "ordinary" router?

A Cisco router with a serial port can generally be configured using Hyper Terminal. Hyper Terminal emulates several telnet terminals, including VT100 and VT52.

If your router accepts a serial port for configuration, then you can use Hyper Terminal to configure it.

If your router has a serial port, you can connect to it using hyper terminal on com1 port. Otherwise you can use the IP address of the router. But imho it is better to use the web interface if you already have the ip address.
