I live in a desert climate and I've been able to keep the backyard green all summer by watering it 3 times a week but do I keep watering it through the winter?
Also, we don't get much rain so if I stop watering the trees and grass won't get much water at all.
I'm renting and I'm concerned about keeping the yard up.

Yes, a good deep soaking once a week (if there is no rain) should suffice since you are in a desert climate. Iam assuming of course, that it still gets sunny and somewhat warmer during the daytime hours. Even when the cold of winter has come, plants as well as the lawn need to be watered at least on a weekly basis. The cool desert air at night, has a tendency to dry out the soil, and if coupled with sunny day's, will further this process along. So, even though winter is coming, you still should be giving your living plants and lawn a drink of water weekly. Watch the lawn, and it will tell you just when it needs a drink. It all depends on how warm your days are. You may just wish to cut back to 2 times a week instead of 3, and water it for a longer period each time. Hope this answers your question.

Once a week during winter months is probably sufficient - best guide is your neighbours - what level of watering are they doing?
