My son has been on a "soild strike" since before he tuned 7 months. We had started solids at 4 months and he was doing great until he just quit. He will only eat yogurt and crackers or Cheerios. He takes bites of our "people food" but will not even eat enough of that to make a whole meal. All he eats most days is formula. And he is drinking so much now that its costing us a fortune.
I just don't understand why he dosn't want to eat anything. And I am worried that something might be wrong with him.
Help please.

I have never forced him to eat anything. He has 8 teeth already. They DON"T need teeth to eat solids. And yes I could just put what I wanted him to eat in his plate. And he would spit it out and throw it on the floor.
Thanks for all the replies...keep them comming.

Check with you pediatrician first to make sure nothing is wrong. At 10 months the only food your child can eat is what you hand them so Quit Handing Him The Formula. You are the person in charge. He will be a little fussy for a couple of days but he certainly won't starve if you give him something to take the place of the formula. Being hungry for a little while is not going to hurt him. Plus DO NOT GIVE HIM A BOTTLE OR CUP OF ANYTHING for at least an hour or more before mealtimes & keep the cup out of reach but handy at mealtime. Make sure that you are not over seasoning his food. Babies don't like or need that much salt , pepper & other stuff

He will eat when he gets hungry. Stop the formula free feeding. Give him bottles only when he is going to sleep, but not in the crib. Start with a plate of all new foods and when he has had his fill of that, give him something you know he will eat. And the amount is not a huge deal. Just 2 tablespoons of a veg is a serving for him. Don't let him control what he is going to eat yet. It is a BAD BAD habit to break! and will create problems for years to come. My 10 yrs old was like and I was packing school lunch everyday. He really couldn't go to friends houses overnight cause I was afraid he would starve.( Oh, the guilt we give ourselves!) When I stopped obsessing about his food, he did too. Now he eats everything - well almost!
Good Luck!

My daughter is 9 1/2 months old. She's kind of doing the same thing. She will eat the chunkier 3rd stage baby foods, but really doesn't care for stage 2 anymore.
She eats some people food, Cheerios, baby poof things, Goldfish, crackers. He could just be getting a tooth in too, which is why he might be on a little strike....

No, nothing wrong. But you will have to cut down on formula to get him to eat other things. Make sure he has access to plenty of water and then just gradually give him less formula while making a varied selection of solids available. If he's digging his heels in, it's better to give him finger foods than have the mess and frustration of trying to feed him from a bowl. As far as his health is concerned, he'll do alright on formula alone for a few more months, so there's no need to worry. My younger son refused to eat lumpy food until he was well over a year. It didn't matter. He was happy to help himself to what you call people food. That's a good name for it :o). Ultimately, don't worry, it may seem as if he is not eating much, but he will not allow himself to go hungry.

At 10 months old your baby needs far more than just milk has to offer. He could well have been put right off by something as simple as spluttering over a mouthful, or being unintentionally force fed more when he really didnt like what was on offer.
As he is eating a little bit i wouldnt worry too much. Try disguising some veg by mooshing it up and hiding it in with other food! But i would also speak with your health visitor too just in case something else is up

I kinda have to agree with Betty. Talk to your pediatrician first, but you are the boss and should be in charge of what he eats, not him. He's old enough to start cutting back on the bottles a little and if he gets hungry he will eat what you offer him, but talk to the doctor first.
It's sometimes hard to communicate exactly what's going on in a forum like this, but there are numerous websites that can help you decide how normal or abnormal your baby may be behaving. Do a google search for infant or toddler feeding schedules or something of that nature and see what you can find.

My daughter didn't eat any solids or baby food in till her 1st B-day. she is very healthy and has had no problems. The doctor told me that she just didn't need them and as long as she is healthy there was no need to worry. She is now 4 and she is the healthest out of my three kids. She rarely gets sick and she eats everything she can. Although she is still is thin. Not underweight just thin.

Try starting him from scratch. Buy the jar baby food and see how he likes it and then gradually add table food. Good Luck!
