The yahoo map appears to come from the Weather Channel. It seems to be working now.

Weather satellite images are updated every hour from geostationary satellites and you get a new image every twelve hours from polar orbiting satellites. The Modis satellites, AQUA and TERRA, produce the images about six to twelve hours after the image was captured. Satellite imagery used for Google Earth and other landform images do not need to be recent and they are not. These can be years old. Weather satellite imagery, on the other hand, has to be up to date to be of any use and it is.
