Nothing will happen on December 21, 2012 of any revelance to our modern world. According to the Meso-American long count calendar that date signified the end of an era when Creation moved (or shifted) into a different cycle. They discerned this by gazing at the stars. Like so many other cultures they were concerned with what was going to happen to them then and not with what was going to happen to an unknown people in the 21st. Century. How accurate were their predictions? Well, let's keep in mind that for the most part the people who created this calendar are already... Gone. Not gone the way of the dinosaur, but assimilated into the rest of current main-stream society & culture.

People get all bent out of shape thinking that that's where the Mayan calendar ended. Their calendar was not computer generated. They were chipping away at stone and may be that's just as far as they got in their calendar making before they were overrun by enemies, plague or some other natural disaster.

Let's consider other end-world predictions, shall we. Nostradamus: ...in 1999 the Great King of Terror will come from the sky. And who can ever forget: Y-2K???

Stop worrying about end-world predictions that have NEVER come true and lead a good life. Be happy, don't worry!

Best.

We are approaching the next major step in Earth's evolution - the end of another 26,000 year cycle, and our solar system is moving into the Photon Band (which is 2000 plus years wide) as our steady and faithful planet streams into the Age of Aquarius and synchronizes with the Galactic Center. This age heralds an awakening and consolidation / harmonization of humankind.

The systems we all grew up with are on the verge of collapse. Authority (be it governmental, religious or secular) is going to be questioned as it never has before. We will eventually take back the power we have surrendered during the past millennia when we allowed others to tell us what to think and when we were told that we required intermediaries to interpret Divine Essence for us - instead of contacting God directly through meditation, through our hearts and souls. The date 2012 is all about beginnings — and not endings.

NASA predicts that the Sun will also reverse its own magnetic poles during 2012 as result of reaching the end of the current 11-year sunspot cycle. Also In 2012, asteroid 99942 Apophis comes into view again to recalculate odds of impact. (maybe isn't just "nothing?") Anyway, look at the two long answers on the same question below this one by SadWoman.

This is a world without end. (Ephesians 3:21) So whatever happens on 12/21/2012 won't be the end of the world no matter how horrible it may be.

Technically that is when they stopped mapping the calendar. They were assimilated and wiped out before they could continue further. It's just that their calendar was so accurate and end of the world horror stories are so popular that this has gotten all blown out of proportion.
