The product I use is called HG Hagesan Blue Professional Limescale Remover it's an all purpose bathroom cleaner, especially useful for the descaling of blocked showerheads. £4.95 + P&P for 500ml bottle from Coopers Direct

You should be able to take the shower head off and soak it in a solution of a product called VIAKAL which will clear all debris from the showerhead for you. it is also biodegrade-able so will breakdown naturally after use.
Good Luck.

use a proprietary limescale remover or - if that's too easy, use a bowl of vinegar
you should be able to unscrew the actual shower nozzle from the rest of the head... soak, rinse and scrub with a stiff headed brush, or use a pin to clear any remaining bits

Soak it overnight in either of these. Vinegar, lemon juice or tomato sauce/brown sauce.
The vinegar in the tom sauce will eat away the lime scale. No need to spend your hard earned cash on anything fancy.

try some descaler - like the one used for descaling the kettle or coffee machine. Unscrew the shower head and just soak it in the descaling solution for about 15 mins .

Take it off and scrub it with a stiff brush. If that doesn't work, a descaler will shift the stuff, but you might find it easier just to buy a new shower head.

Vinegar or CLR works well. If you do not want to remove it, tie a plastic bag full of the chemical you want to use around the head and let it sit a few hours.

Get hold of some Citric Acid (concentrated Lemon juice) soak it in that. It works well, but where I am (Lincolnshire) it needs doing every 8 weeks or so.

Soak it in white spirit vinegar, that will dissolve the limescale.
