Me and my partner are planning a holiday for 2 weeks AI to the maldives next year and have narrowed it down to a few islands. Vilamendhoo, club hakura (chaaya lagoon), or meedhupparu island. Am i right in thinking vilamendhoo is now lacking in beach in a lot of areas? if so where is best to stay on that island?. Club hakura looks like a superb resort, only i am lead to believe you have to take a boat to the house reef. Is this correct? and is there much to be seen in the lagoon by the water bungalows? please be as specific as possible. Finally meedhupparu has a lot of mixed reviews on the internet and i am very wary of how good this island actually is. Many thanks.

Hi, i would recommend www.kuredu.com, i have been their 3 times now once for 2 weeks and twice for 3 weeks, 4 types of accommodation to choose from, great diving and snorkelling and beach is one of the biggest available on a tourist island, its a 40 min seaplane from Male

meedhupparu island - (don't go) island itself is not nice and more expensive for water sports etc than other islands, but if you go to the other side of island www.thewatervillas.com you will be spoiled, personal butler, snorkel straight of the steps of your villa, we opted for a free upgrade from kuredu last Feb as the over booked beach villas, if was fab.

If your a diver i would recommend www.bandos.com it's a smaller island 15min speed boat from Male, family friendly ( i went with my 1 year old) but diving is brilliant we had 30 Manta rays swimming over us a manta point, any island around there has a brilliant diving four seasons is meant to be good aswell

Time of year to go end of feb - throughout March, best weather, we went in Oct last year to Bandos and only had 20 min of rain one day which is quite good, more northern island get hit by monsoon season worst.

Try www.mal-dives.com for a full island list

Enjoy your holiday where ever you choose, hope the above helps you in your choice and have a look at the websites to give you more info

[Info on the resorts you suggested are listed below ... I would not be overly concerned about the September 29, 2007 bomb in Male ... most tourists arrive at the airport and then go directly to their resort by seaplane or speed boat ... without taking a boat to downtown Male. Such events are very rare in the Maldives.]

Adaaran Select Meedhupparu Island Resort, Meedhupparu, Raa Atoll is a wonderful 4 star resort. Take the time to read the reviews (145) at TripAdvisor ... they are mostly very positive.

Hakuraa Club, Meemu Atoll is a 3 star resort with only 80 bungalows.

Vilamendhoo Island Resort, South Ari Atoll is a 4 star resort with 154 rooms with more selection. Over 300 positive review s listed below. Don't take one persons feedback when you can get 300! This would be my choice if you are going for scuba activity. It depends on your activity plans in the Maldives.

Enjoy the Maldives.
