I've built or sewn costumes for years. It helps that I know how to sew well. I build up costumes for the kids and myself. I made my daughter a poodle skirt this year for her Bobby sockers costume. My oldest boy says he isn't dressing up any more, but he'll get in the mood closer to Halloween.

A little of both. Some store-bought little items, with the rest homemade. So far my daughter has been animals, so we get an animal ears headband (like bunny or mouse) from Walmart, and some makeup, and use a regular sweatsuit-type outfit she has.

home made is always best, it's from the heart and you can do whatever you want, although kiddies over 9 can't appreciate it, its not'cool'
