What are some suggestions for any practical skills that he can pick up and gain self-sonfidence to add value to his self-worth? The kid is 16 years old and has only had 3 years of formal education in a sub-normal school. Brought up in a ghetto environment and raised by a single mom. He doesn't like to bathe either.

Have your Pastor talk to him and start putting your trust in the creator of the universe. God can help you and him but we have to ask, give it a try, joining a gang obviously usually ends in a bad way. I would also suggest packing up everything you have and getting out of the ghetto. Very few people ever get out of the ghetto. I don't care if you don't have no where to even go, just drive to the next town, find a church and park in their parking lot. Find the Pastor and ask him for help. Do what ever it takes to save his life.

Be a listener. Kids who have been through alot will make bad choices to let out their anger. He wants to talk but feels like he can't. Ask him if there are any sports he would like to play and just listen to him. Don't say anything that might be taken wrong, and encourage him. Tell him you have confidence in him. I wish I had someone to talk to besides my mom. he is lucky you are concerned about him and want to help him.
Good luck!

Is there anyway you could switch him to a normal school and encourage him to go to normal kid hangouts?

I don't consider the ghetto normal.

Sports and other recreational groups is an excellent idea. Keep in mind that Walt Disney and many other visionaries had dyslexia.
