Im 35 + 4 weeks went to midwives last tuesday, she said she found a trace of glucose in my urine sample, then when she measured my bump she looked a little bit concerend she asked what weight my first daughter was when born she was only 6 lb14 oz. She then measured me again when she marked it down in my notes i measured over the top line. She didnt test my blood for glucose and told me when i go to hospital appointment on thursday to tell them. I am now worried because she looked concerened but just fobbed me off.

High glucose levels, as well as a large measurement of your uterus can be indicators of gestational diabetes, which often means a large baby. When you go to your appointment, they may test your blood, and do an ultrasound to see the size of baby. In the mean time, try not to stress too much your baby is very close to meeting the world, I'm sure everything will be fine.

Women who have a history of large birth-weight babies are at a greater risk of developing Gestational Diabetes. It is a potentially serious condition, but is also able to be controlled by diet, exercise, and more frequent prenatal check-ups. Occasionally medication is required. Generally most women have a test somewhere between 24-28 weeks to screen for Gestational Diabetes. If you did not have one of those tests than your midwife may be concerned that the trace of glucose in your urine and measuring large are indicative of GD. Your midwife is likely just being cautious and wants you to follow up at your hospital appointment. She probably did not tell you more since she does not know for sure until you have a test. They will possibly want to send you for a one-hour or a three-hour glucose tolerance test. Since you are approaching 36 weeks, however, I don't think there will be much you have to worry about. If you did have GD, after the birth of your baby, it will go away, but they will test both you and your baby in the hospital before you go home. You may also be more closely monitored and may begin weekly visits right away. I am mom to 4 kids. The older 3 were not large birth-weight (all under 8 pounds), but I still developed GD with my 4th pregnancy. I began weekly visits at 32 weeks which included an ultrasound, a non-stress test, and an appointment with the diabetic nurse/counselor. Our daughter was born at 41 weeks and weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces. It is hard not to worry, but it is helpful to know that if you do develop GD that there are things you can do to control it.

ASK HER!!! I hate it when they don't explain.. She might have just not been sure and didn't want to worry you...

If Gestational Diabetes is just showing up now You shouldn't have a problem... Your baby might be bigger because of the extra sugar but this late in the game it shouldn't cause any problems with the baby.. The only thing I would think she would be concerned about is if the baby gets to big for you have without a C. section... BUT OF COURSE I am no Dr. So just ask her.

WHat APPOINTMENT AT THE HOSPITAL.. are they inducing you ???

I would call her and just tell her that you noticed that she looked concerned at your last appointment and that you wanted to know what the problem was.. IF THERE is a problem..

GOOD LUCK!!! Try not to worry.. and CALL YOUR WID WIFE ... I WISH YOU THE BEST HONEY>>

If you had glucose in your urine, it's a sign that your blood glucose level is too high. You may have developed gestational diabetes, and that would be a matter of concern.

Why wasnt your blood tested at around 28 weeks in the first place? That is a typical pregnancy screening test. IF you have GD and its left uncontrolled it could produce a big baby.. I had a 9 pound 2oz baby due to uncontroled GD. Its not that bad you'll just have a big baby if you come back positive for GD.

umm its possible that you have gest diabeties which is why she asked about the size of ur daughter, when you have gest diabeties oviously glucose is found in your urine and it almost always makes the baby larger than normal, maybe you should instead of waiting around like the midwife so carelessly expects you to do go ring your doctor
