if i'm not mistaken, the word may be is in teh use of saying that theres a possibility of something. And the word maybe, which is more commonly used in english for an indecisive answer about something.

maybe=perhaps (Maybe I will win the race = Perhaps I will win the race.)
may be=could/might be ( I may be the winner of the race.)
They are essentially the same.

"maybe" is an adverb, while "may be" is a verb form, with the modal verb "may". They are related of course but they have different uses.

Compare:
-- "It may be that he will come." (verb form, main clause subject is "it", dependent clause with subject "he")
-- "Maybe he'll come, and maybe he won't." (adverb, main clause subject is "he")

There is no difference is meaning.
There is only a difference in pronunciation.

Example:

1. "Is this apple okay to eat?"
"Maybe"

2. "It may be that the product was not satifactory among the customers"

So, there you have it.

It is always "May be".

"Maybe" is a typographical error.
