The Bible was written by men, and therefore suffered from a bad case of gender bias.

Do any of Us, male, female, young, old black, white or brindle really have equal rights? Are the rights of one country's citizenry the same as those of another?
Queen Victoria,( like the American First Ladies up until 1920), the Spartan and Roman Women, as well as the vast majority of Women throughout the world did not have the 'right' to vote. But We are far more enlighten than that, aren't We?

oh dear, these are the very statements that we were all told not to use in our history 101 courses. "since the beginning of time" doesn't make any sense. there were no people at the "beginning of time". but if you are referring to the course of human history, women were not always subservient. the oldest of cultures were often matrilineal. inequalities among the sexes began when nomadic tribes started to settle and develop agricultural lifestyles. this shift created new gender roles, and a lot of spare time. it also led to the development of money economies and the need more children, hence hierarchy.
so no, someone did not realize that it was against commonsense to have equal rights.

Have women who were not equal to men (gender-wise) in the beginning (old societies) achieved anything specific to their gender in the recent times, to demand gender equality now?
Now a days its all machines and electronics and women are usually employed in “service sectors” as opposed to “manufacturing / industrial” sectors. Men made this possible. But the real achievement women of our times compared to the women of the by gone era is that they have lots of time at hand and not much work. I think in the old days women had real work to do. Since they have more time and more chances of affecting men’s life, I think its better to give them what they want. Gender equality or special treatment or whatever they want.

Men didnt have equal rights eithier. It was more survival of the fittest, who has the power is right.
Men started to strive for equal rights around the time of illuminism and from there it was a long way to male universal suffrage. Ironically the women who complain about zhe evil men who could universal suffrage a couple of years before women, dont see the fact that without zhe evil penis weilding men nobody would have suffrage or rights.

The Constitution stated that all men have equal rights... But this law was amendment with Article IV and specifically stated that women and blacks as well have rights...
We are talking about unenforceable laws and when you have the longer stick in the bunch you can not truly empathized with this issue because you are benefiting from oppressing others with your overlooking and participating....

no one knows whether they did or not.
and "equal rights" is a fairly new concept... it hasn't existed since the "beginning of time"
think, US constitution....
before then, it was pretty much unheard of in most "civilizations"--esp between economic classes & races.
oh, and that doesn't even begin to describe certain cultures where women are the property owners & lineage is followed thru *them* & not men, not to mention all the variations of gender relations throughout the world & time...
perhaps some anthropology classes would do you some good....
edit @ bloodysnowetc... so when does that "milking it" set in? cuz that would be GREAT!! i just had to scrub all my floors on my hands & knees & clean the whole house & garage this weekend on my own, and i'm 20 wks pregnant...

i think it was because since men are physically stronger, and thats all they are..they figured they could dominate us, and they did. from then on it was all social. it was put into our heads from birth we were inferior and, we werent allowed to be educated. as it still is today. women are STILL being told in subtle ways we are less 'strong' and worthy than a man.

Nobody really knows what happened before civilization, but if it was equality or female rule before that, then civilization was created when men were in charge.
