Nope. Ten thousand isn't enough. Maybe a million.

There are one thousand of them, but all of them complete strangers to me, which makes the situation a little less of problematic, and yet I am absolutely uncertain as what would I do, as I find my moral and ethical being in the spotlight.

Them being complete strangers could be the clue here, I think. ‘What the hell … why should I car’? As how would I know if these are right type of people, that they are not in for some rightful punishment proposed by man, or by God. I have observed that people have strong tendencies to go wrong even when in their great numbers and then unable to restore to normality being punished for it. If the people under consideration were perfectly strangers to me then I would not know what they are in for. And besides I would not have established emotional and social bonds with them and therefore my attempts to reach a decisive conclusion would without any moral or ethical sense not fully developed. I would not be able to make a decision. And then I might call upon spiritual or religious aspects of my being. I am sure I will find something their. Asking myself questions like this: why should I sacrifice my life for some purpose or cause that I am completely ignorant of?

Even as I do not believe in God or religion strongly enough, I think that no one has the right to take away any life intentionally for the simple reason that no one can give life and this applies equally to own life as well..... even if the purpose is to save thousands of life, because it is impossible to say in advance or be absolutely sure that giving away one's life would be the only feasible way to save the lives.

Moreover, can one be sure that another opportunity to save even more lives is not awaiting round the corner? Life is a source of opportunities and no particular opportunity can be big enough to sacrifice all the future opportunities to come.

No, in todays climate over opver population I'd sacrifice dying and stay alive for the good of the earth. Those ten thousand must die and thats just the way it is.

Do you have a group of poeople in mind?

Would any of those die to save me?
I very much doubt it!
I would donate both my kidneys to my grandchildren if that were necessary, so I would die for them, meanwhile, I'm more use to my family alive and as a back up should anything happen to my daughter and husband.
