Yes, look underneath the car. Manual transmissions have a much smaller main body and automatic transmissions have a larger body and a wide oil pan.

look under the vehicle at the transmission. If it has a pan with a lot of bolts around the edge of the pan then its an automatic. I really want to know why you cant look inside? the pan on the transmission will tell you though.

first look for a sign on the car some say automatic if that dose not work open the door and look.
dont stress if not sure look at another car

Not to my knowledge, I can usally tell when its driving down the street w/o seeing inside because when they go to shift the front end of the car dips lower on each shift.
