Hi Third P.

I think happiness is the wrong word for what people should be looking for. We should be searching for contentment, inner peace, tranquility. These are goals worth striving for. Happiness is an event that occurs here & there, on some days. Those moments should be cherished because they do not occur each day. We will also have days where we find sadness, even grief. We must accept those times as well.

However, the picture I have in my mind is a straight line — called contentment — I live along that line. Some days, the line spikes up, into happiness. The time passes and goes back to contentment. Occasionally, the line drops, into sadness. This time also passes and returns to contentment. This, to me, is a perfect existence.

The mistake many people make is in thinking that they should be happy all the time. This is not true — it doesn't work that way. Happiness is a gift to enjoy. How would we know it is so wonderful if we had it all the time? The fact that it is only here sometimes makes it all the more precious.

If one is able to reach the point where they feel they are living life in contentment, then they have reached the best way of life. They have accepted the low times, enjoy the high times; and the rest of the time can walk around with a secret smile of contentment. They are at peace.

Fulfillment comes when we stop looking for it. We are always looking for something to fill US. We should focus more on helping other people. When we take the focus off of us and put it on others, we then become fulfilled.

It is not something we find — it is something we must give — then, and only then, will it come back to us.

I, personally, gave myself over to God, many years ago, I think as a child. All my life I have wanted to help others, because I knew that was what Jesus did; and I wanted to do what He did. So, I dedicated myself to helping others, in career, through volunteer work, in simple, everyday life.

By focusing on doing that, strangely enough I felt fulfilled. I was not searching for something to fulfill ME. I was striving to help OTHERS; and I did. Yet, it also filled me up, too. It is a wonderful feeling when you can make someone happy, help another, even for a short while. It creates a wonderful feeling of joy.

There may be a lot of suffering in this world; but we can help, even on a small level. Small things can have big effects. On other people, on the world, on ourselves. If we all focused on making other people happy, just imagine what a wonderful world we would have. Maybe this is a bit idealistic, but it's a start.

All I know is that I have found contentment and fulfillment. That does not mean I do not have difficult days; certainly I do. But when you have contentment in your soul, it makes it easier to get through those difficult times. At times, I must meditate & pray more than I usually do; but God does take care of me. Of this, I have no doubt.

Peace.

I think happiness and fulfillment are achievable but are not the end in themselves because these concepts are not absolute but relative, meaning what you find happiness and fulfillment at one time can dissipate. All because they are not tied to a general pursuit in life. You may have achieved happiness and fulfillment today but humans being what we are, we are not content with that. Tomorrow another target is set, and the cycle begins once more. Then again, if you choose a niche in deeper spirituality with the courage of your conviction, may be that is where your happiness and fulfillment lie permanently.

Through the destruction for mine enemies and smelling the odor of their blood and shall be granted soulful peace. Their lament and their screams of agonized gore, music to my ears. The crowds shall part and give me way and wonder at gruesome punishments leaving entrails behind. No revenge, simply perfect and permanent peace at fulfilled conscience.

The Judgment is negative, the release from its pain positive.

Some questions are a real pain in the kisser.

What huge gap ? God is not the only path... In fact, god is an imaginary human construct, invented for the purpose of diminishing our anxiety about death. I derive no happiness or fulfillment from contemplating an imaginary friend. I find complete fulfillment in being alive, and striving to be the best human being I can.

1) Don't rely on external powers. You must do it for yourself.
2) Don't explain things on the basis of external judgment. This saps your determination.
3) Understand that the universe does not operate in a binary fashion just because your planet has a day-night cycle.
4) Understand that all of life is inexorably interconnected and don't be fooled by the visual input that creates the false impression of separateness.
5) Get rid of those who seek to ensnare you in guilt and unhappiness. They are serving their own purposes, not your life.
6) Understand that all of life, including the tiniest particle of dust, is continually changing. Do not get attached to circumstances.
7) Do not complain if you don't always find the going easy. Enjoy what there is to enjoy, and suffer what there is to suffer and never forget that your beliefs determine your environment.

Hi Third, love is the answer - love for someone, spiritual love, love of work (purpose), and love for the serving (helping) of others. These 'loves' will bring a person happiness and fulfillment. It sounds simplistic, but that is the secret.

In "Purpose" .. For without purpose, we have no direction or meaning... life seems to have little or no value to us. We, as people, have to have "reasons" to get up in the morning, and to live our day, and to continue on..and this is found in "Purpose(s)" whether through another, or what we do ourselves to create them... bye.. :)
