I am intending to stay in Bulgaria for 30 days in november and would like to find out what is the best mobile service provider for international text messaging (sms messaging service)? How much would a sim card cost me?

How would you describe a pre-paid sim card? Why does it get called pre-paid? Is it something like a traditional sim card bought in a mobile phone shop?

I am a regular visitor to Bulgaria, and reckon M-Tel is the biggest and best Bulgarian mobile network. A sim-card is around $8, and then you buy top up cards for use within Bulgaria.

International texting is also quite economical on this network, but I find the cheapest way to do this, is to negotiate with my normal home network provider to permit a discounted rate for use abroad. Normally there is a modest charge per month for this (in the UK about $7).

Then I use my "normal" phone for international, and the M-Tel sim in another handset for internal Bulgarian use.
