We like darker rooms for two reasons....it's easier to stay sleep longer or take a nap whenever we want. The other is it keeps the glare off of the TV which is EXTREMELY important to our entertainment needs! When women are coming we tend to brighten up, other than that...we like darker colors and darker moods in a house.

I am not a guy, but I have always kept my curtains closed in the day time and year round. It keeps the sun light out, it helps keep the house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, it keeps stuff in the house from fading due to sun light shinning on it, keeps other people from looking in, keeps the glare off the TV screen and also the computer screen. That is a few of the reasons that I do it.

You are so right. Mine like the blinds shut. It looks like a cave in here. Our living room is lit by the TV and a dim light. If the window covers were open, there would be a glare on the SPEED Channel. I have to ask permission to turn on the light to fold clothes. He always says "of course". I just like to bug him.
When you have all the window open and the sun shining in, you can see the dust on the table tops and the the floor needs vacuuming. So I don't bother him much about it. LOL

I also open the blinds first thing! I need the light to get going. I try not to spend much time in the basement (that's where the tv is) since it's so dark. My husband will sit in the dark basement and watch movies. If I turn on even a small lamp he complains about the glare. It has to be a "cave" thing!

My husband says it is to keep people walking by from looking in and sizing up what we have and coming back to steal it when no one is home. I disagree. I do think it is a man thing. The first thing I do is let the sun in every morning. I've noticed the only women that kep out the light are paranoid w/dementia.

I like to open the curtains & the door, even when it's cold out. Funny thing is my (step) dad is the same way, no matter how deep the snow is, his front door is open. My daughter on the other hand, likes the room to be dark, like her (step) dad. My husband is usually ok with all the light, until nap time. lol

I like it dark; feel more comfortable. My wife is the same as you do, first thing she does is open the drapes and curtains.

I like dark rooms as well, for the same reasons cpeezie stated. It's not that I hate the light, but its glare can be overbearing at times.

Ah ha, so its not just my son who has this strange habit. Its wierd and I was forever moaning at him when he still lived at home, to get the curtains open and the window up.
