My Cagiva Raptor 125cc has a split in the exhaust just after the box going right round the circumference of the pipe. I am going to get an arrow exhaust in a few weeks so just need a temporary repair until I have the cash for the new exhaust. I've been looking and there are lots of products on the market - Halfords do an exhaust repair kit and Holts seem to have several options. Which is the best to go for?

Buy a stainless steel worm drive clamp like the ones used on auto radiator hoses. They can be unscrewed fully to allow them to be put around an exhaust pipe and then screwed back together to tighten around the hole or split in the pipe. You can first wrap some aluminum foil from your kitchen around the pipe before putting a couple of the clamps around the pipe to hold the aluminum foil in place. Larger stainless steel worm drive clamps are also sold in home plumbing centers where they are used to go around plumbing pipes.

Welding will give a permanent repair.
Steel filled epoxy putty works better than any exhaust repair kit.
