Is finders keepers the rule, for the most part?

I think it depends on the person and what you were taught.
I do not believe in that rule unless there is just no way to return something. Others were taught that if you find it, it's yours.

If I totally lose my sanity and you find it, would you please return it? I could really use it. lol

No not always. As an example, the team that found the Titanic do not get to keep it and all its treasures on board.
