Here are some sites that will give you the information you need. If you need help on a specific point, come back and ask a specific question and you'll get better results.

For the folks who said there aren't 'wars within wars', I beg to disagree. While the grammar in the question isn't great, it is clear what the asker's intention is. Even if you were unclear as to the question, you would still be wrong. Each war can be broken up into separate phases and divisions. In the American Civil War, you could reasonably define a "Western War", the 'Pre-War" which would include the Missouri Compromise, "The Gentleman's War", and "The Ruthless War". Or in WWII you would have the "Atlantic War", "Western European War" "Russian- German War", "Insurgent War", "War in the Pacific", and others. It may not be an elegant way to phrase it, and there are better ways, but it is still, technically correct, so cut the kid some slack.

Well I would think that the American Revolution is stated as that and not as a civil war because we were not really part of Britain but a series of colonies seeking independence. We were trying to become an independent nation as opposed to taking over Britain itself. The Civil War although composed of 2 separate nations was really between 2 factions of the same nation. The union objective was to retain the southern states that had left the union. The United States never really recongnized the south as another nation, nor (I believe) did any other nation. In the American Revolution France recognized us. Had the Confederacy won the war it might have then become a revolution if they decided to stay a separate nation and not overtake Lincoln's government. Had they taken over the other government then it would have still been a civil war. The defination of civil war is that the 2 waring sides come from the same soverign nation.

there were many countries which had civil wars. including the American War for Independence could also be considered a civil war. what you need to do is clarify which civil war you are referring to. there never has been to my knowledge any wars within wars but battles would be a more correct term for the information I'm guessing you desire.

Wars dont occur within wars, you need to look up battles.

The info youre looking for is so common that you could find it with a 5 minute search. Heck, its probably even on Wikipedia correctly.
