Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, A-Rod, and Jorge Posada, of any consideration of returning to the Yankees next season? That's not to say that Steinbrenner may not even offer them contracts. Your thoughts.

Just so you know, I didn't mention Clemens only because it never accured to me that he would come back. When he walked off the mound last night, I really believe it was for the last time.

Some exceptional answers so far. This is going to be difficult to pick.

With or without Torre, and this is all dependant upon what transpires tonight (for tonight the future of this organization is in qurstion- as it well becomes for each game)

Mo- yes, I look for him next year, with or without
Posada- yes, with or without
Andy- yes, with or without, they NEVER should have allowed Andy to leave in the first place
Clemens- enjoy retirement, you deserve it Rocket
A-Rod- this is the most sketchy one of all. If 27 is brought to NY then yes, I can see them keeping him, if no, they may still keep him, but this is a hard call. I think this is more of a personal decision by A-Rod.

Unfortunate that the series is still being playing and we are facing distractions of this magnitude.

Well Steinbrenner was quoted as saying that Alex is a priority for the organization so the first 300 million dollar man may be a Yankee this coming season. I can't see the Yankees not resigning Posada after the Monster season he's had. Andy has his own card to play so to speak. He's the one who could call in the option year to play again in 2008. I would think he'll come back. He had a great year and has pitched well for them in the postseason. Mariano is the only question mark I can see. With the emergence of Joba Chamberlain Mariano's worth is beginning to diminish. That's not to say that he's washed up but it does signal to him that long contracts may not be forthcoming. I can see the Yanks offering him a 2 year deal in the realm of 18 million to stay and not countering if theres any better offers out there.

I believe they will resign Rivera at two years. I think they will try to resign Posada for three years but if another team offers four years they may let Posada go. I hope they both stay. Pettite is one I'm not sure of. I think he would come back but you never know without Torre. If A-rod opts out then I think he's gone. Steinbrenner did say that keeping A-rod is the priority this offseason though so maybe he won't be gone.

Interesting question Mick.
I don't really follow the team so don't listen to any interviews to know the personal relationships, but I hear only positive things about the relationship between Torre and the players.

However, Posada, despite his awesome year this year, is due for the downturn in his career, he is looking for that one last big contract to finish his career. The one that looks good in year 1 and makes you say, in the middle of year 2, "why did we sign this guy for 4 years"

Rivera's case is different, he hasn't really shown signs of breaking down, yet this year was an odd one for him. I don't think he's lost it for sure, but I also don't think Torre's outcome will be the determining factor. He stays.

Clemens hasn't had the season he's used to having as a part time player, so he will go no matter what.

For Andy, left handed pitching is ALWAYS in demand, he may move depending on the Torre situation.

Lastly, for Arod. Arod is the Han Solo of the first Star Wars movie. You think he may care about this, but it always leads back to Arod.

If someone really indicates to him that he can get money by opting out, he will. I doubt he will, but the owners of baseball teams are pretty dumb.
If he opts out hoping to resign a bigger contract with the Yankees, I hope they are smart enough to tell him to take a hike.
That would be like saying to all the fans and players "See, look guys, I have my cake right here and look, look, I am eating it too"

Well if Torre is fired (I am being optimistic using "if") It will give a negative feel to next season for sure, with it being their last in the real "House that Ruth Built". As far as the players, if the Boss Man really wants them back he will throw all kinds of money at them, but he might just throw the baby out with the bath water if they lose and rebuild. I know I would like to see them back (except Clemens, let him retire a Yankee) but who knows what goes on in Steinbrenner's brain.

I'm obviously not a Yankees fan, but found this question interesting.

His boys obviously respect him a whole lot, because they really tore up the Indians last night, and I believe part of that was the fact that Ole Georgie said what he did that New Jersey newspaper.

Now in my opinion,
Andy will stay
Mo still has some gas in him, so he'll stay
A-Rod-??Who knows
Jorge, this year has been good to him, if he doesn't stay, he'll more then likely get a big $$ contract somewhere.

Pettite - Absolutely. He gave NYY one of the best pitching performances in the playoffs the franchise has ever seen. Chamberlain blew it, not him.

Posada - He hit for a .338 regular season average! Before this year, he never hit above .300. He threw out a good percentage of base runners and had a .994 fielding percentage. He's coming back.

Mo - Well we NEED him right now. Although he hasn't been as automatic as a decade ago, he still got the job done vs. Cleveland last night.

A-Rod - Close call. Ultimately it's his decision, but it's funny how everybody's rumoring where he's gonna go when, not ONCE has he discussed his contract on his own terms. That tells me he likes New York, and wants to be re-signed.

If Joe goes,I think everybody but Pettite will leave..Torre has been a father figure and friend to most of these guys. The anger of Steiny's firing will fuel alot of dissent in the Yankee ranks...next season could be very disturbing for you Bronx fanatics.

IF Torre is gone next year

Pettite - Will stay.

Mo - A big yes.

A-Rod - Probably not.

Jorge Posada - Yes.

Roger Clemens - No.

If Steinbrenner fires Torre, then he needs to find another job. Torre has done a great job (and I can't stand NY). How could his firing not have a negative impact on the team?

Of course, I wouldn't mind if he came to St. Louis if LaRussa decides to leave....
