As already said we do not vote for the prime minister in the UK, we vote a political party into power, not an individual, even though the personality politics presented by the media might make you think otherwise.

This is a problem with democracy, it gives a vote to people who don't know what they are doing with it.
We vote a political party into government, not the prime minister.

You obviously don;t understand our system of government. Votes go towards a party not a person, our PM is the leader of the party that wins. It's a simple as that, its why Brown took over from Blair, because the PARTY leadership (and therefore the job of prime minister) changed.
Because it is the PARTY that won the last election, it decides when to call the next one. It doesn't have to do this for another few years as the last election saw Blair bring the labour PARTY to victory.
I'd have liked to have had an election, but our democratic rights aren't infringed because there isn't going to be one.

Perhaps you need to read a book on the British constitution. We no more directly elect the Prime Minister that Americans directly elect their President.
Prime ministers who have taken office without an election include: Gordon Brown, John Major, James Callaghan and Winston Churchill.

Yet another one that does have a clue what he is talking about, poor uneducated fool.
You do NOT vote for a Prime Minister, "YOU" vote for the party you like!!!!
Maggie got thrown out, John Major won the Tory vote and so became Tory leader.
Tony Blair resigned and etc, etc, etc, etc,
Got it?
I can`t believe people are giving the thumbs down for what is simply the truth and fecking obvious to everyone else.
They must be 100% fecking tossers.

Really we should be able to vote for our prime-minster but when we vote we vote for a party. And even if a new prime-mister comes along they are meant to have the same values as the old one because they are both members of the same party which is meant to stand for the same qualities.

Because a democracy relies on the intelligence and the convictions of its people for strength.
You can moan that you didn't vote for Labour, but if at the same time you admit you didn't vote at all it's your own fault.
Voter apathy is the one reason we have a Labour government right now, plain and simple. They got in with a third of the vote, despite having the general support of only 25% of the population at the time of the election.
