Someone told me that because I do not do recreational drugs on a regular basis (well in fact, I haven't done any at all for the past 2 to 3 years now), I therefore cannot consider myself to be open-minded about drug-use.
Personally though, I believe everyone has a right to do drugs if they want to, and I do not normally judge people who do it because of the occasion (at a party) but I do not like people who do it on a regular basis in order to stay "sane" or "happy", especially if they have kids.
Am I thus considered to be not open-minded about using drugs???

By the way, the fifth person who replied to my question sounded exactly like the person whom I was referring to in my question.

Brainwha..., what the heck are you talking about?? My question was simply : Do you have to do drugs in order to be open-minded about its use? I consider myself to be open-minded about drug use, but I just choose not to do them myself as I have seen the way it can affect my life. However, someone I know who does it regularly now says I cannot consider myself "open-minded" about drugs because I am now choosing not to do them. My question is thus : What do you think? Do you think I can still be considered to be open-minded about drugs now that I don't do them??

Who said open-mindedness was the highest virtue?????
Forming an opinion is not narrow-minded, judgmental.
There are so many reports of harm done by drug use and even more stories of children hurt by parental misuse of chemicals.
It sounds to be as though you have grown responsible, mature and considerate of the way children deserve to cared for. Ignore anyone who calls you narrow-minded, harsh, or whatever.
I hear people say, "It's my body, I'll do as I please." "Everybody does it". etc. The problem is we don't live on our own personal island ~ our lives affect people all around us. It is wrong to put our pleasures ahead of the safety of other people, especially children.
I think you are really grown up and strong, don't let the "crowd" pressure you into changing your beliefs.
Someone before me said "Experience is the best teacher". It is far better to listen to wise, responsbile people than to experiment. Some who try, die!!

What did you mean "you haven't done any at all for the past 2-3 years"? Since that someone who told you that you don't do recreational drugs on regular basis, you don't consider yourself to be open minded about its use? Gosh, are you trying to show to anyone who would come across your senseless question that you are encouraging drugs(obviously the prohibited drugs, right?) so they will become an OPEN-MINDED heads over its use!!!
who are you???

You don't have to be a user of anything to be open minded. To say that you do, espcially without supporting facts and logic, makes it a unsupported assertion by definition.
Now the question still remains whether drug use is a good thing or a bad thing for society as a whole.

LOL That's like saying that straight people cannot be supportive of gay marriage. Or that someone who eats meat cannot be around vegetarians.
I'd say that you support the rights of others to choose, and that means that you have your own right to choose for yourself what you do or don't do. The person who told you that seems to be arguing that he or she has rights that you do not.
I do think, however, that you're putting much stock into what others think. Maybe the person who told you that was sky high at the time?

You joking me? No way. Just study them I deal with them on a daily basis in my job. I know lots about them but the only 'drug' I have ever done is tobacco. Yes Cigarettes. Yes they are considered a drug because of the addictiveness.

this a no brainer, if you do drugs your mind is not capable of any thing that makes sense and if you are open minded about it in my opinion you are out of your mind and by the way doing drugs other than prescribed by a doctor is against the law so it is not your right!

it is not a case of being open minded or not ....it is very simple.
does the drug in question harm you in the long run ? that is the question
if the answer is yes ...than you are disrespecting your life in general and don't care if you live or die.
if the answer is no , than knock your socks off
make sure you know the correct answer first.

If you have done drugs then you can talk about them with some authority. If not then you can't.
I had a biological psychology lecturer who lectured on amphetamines, LSD, Marijuana and ecstacy. It was only whne I tried them myself that I realised what crap he was talking.
Personnal experience is the best teacher.
